How long will my license get suspended after a DUI in Florida?

The amount of time that your drivers license will get suspended after a DUI will depend on the severity of the incident.  If you caused bodily injury or property damage with your DUI your suspension can sometimes be longer.  The duration of your suspension can also be longer if you have had additional DUIs in the past.  It is important to contact the Florida DMV to find out how long your driver license will be suspended.  You should also contact the DMV to see if you might be eligible for a hardship license.  If you have any questions regarding your suspension and how it relates to your insurance please feel free to give our office a call.

 

Florida Driver License Revocation Periods for a DUI

First conviction – Your drivers license will be suspended for a minimum of 180 days and a maximum of 1 year.

Second conviction within 5 years – Your drivers license will be suspended for a minimum of 5 years but you might be eligible for a hardship reinstatement after 1 year.

Third conviction within 10 years of the second violation – Your drivers license will be suspended for a minimum of 10 years.  You might be eligible for a hardship license after two years.

Fourth conviction –  Regardless of when your prior DUI convictions occurred, your drivers license will be permanently suspended.  You will not be eligible for a hardship reinstatement.

DUIs that caused serious bodily injury or homicide have a minimum suspension period of three years.
